Grotesk – A decade of Swiss design lost in Brooklyn

Grotesk, aka Kimou Meyer, is a Swiss designer who moved to NYC in 1999 to work for a European design agency and has been there ever since. In the process of discovering the unique visual language of the Brooklyn streets, things such as hand painted signs, sport logos, street bombing, etc, he found that his approach to design and the creation of his own work took a drastic 180 degree turn.

Many people knows Grotesk for his amazing blog on 12oz prophet (mostly self-celebrative), or for his nice albums on Flickr (with a stunning collection of oldschool hip hop flyers).

This fine 144 pages, hardcover, book is published by Ginko press (a NY publisher somehow specialized in graffiti) and it’s a great collection of Grotesk illustrations and t-shirts design for Upper Playground, Stussy, Sixpack, 5boro.
If you like illustration and typography, this is surely a book that you should have.
