Lost – Graffiti in the City of Angels

Lost – Graffiti in the City of Angels is a really nice book (you can guess the topic), produced by EyeOne, the man behind “lost” magazine, who wrote most of the words inside the book. The book starts with a very nice preface by Ian Lynam.

The print run is only 200 copies signed and numbered (I have 146), the cover seems to be printed in silkscreen and the 240-pages volume is spiral bound.

I personally hate the spiral binding, even if I understand that for such a limited print run that’s the only way to save some money. The book is pretty cheap, being sold for only 25€ (shipping included). For such a unique product, that’s quite a good price.
Edit: it turns out that my spiral binding could have been messed up in shipping, so in most cases you will be able to flip the pages like a charme.

I really like the typography and the layout of the volume: the font chosen are really good-looking and the layout is clean and easy to read. That’s even more important, as most of the US graffiti books lack a normal layout, being designed in a crazy and illegible manner – maybe the best example is “The art of Getting Over”, a damn good book ruined by the ugliest layout ever and by no grid at all.

The content is what you can expect by a book about Los Angeles, and more! Tons of grat tags, throw ups and walls, crazy handstyles and everything else that renders LA style so beautiful.

Among those featured in this book are pioneers such as Tempt, Yem, Besk, and the MAK crew; artists influential in shaping current L.A. graffiti culture including Ayer, Atlas, Cab, and Hael; and visuals by street art innovator The Phantom, photographer Luna One, and artist Patrick Martinez.

There’s even a very nice blackbook section, with sketches and characters.

mix

just a couple of mixed updates: check the new pimpmytrain website (everything you didn’t want to know about graffiti, moreover in Italian), that’s really useless. download the new issue of “illegal only” digital magazine, with tons of bombing, dubs, silver pieces (ok the flash pageflip effect is really annoying, but the contents are good). There’s a graffiti jam in Bergamo next week, I’m there, see the flyer here. El Gato tells me about a new exhibition for toys in Rome. Go to hellomynameis.it once in a while, always new stuff there. A new projcet called streetfile, with some interesting content.
